Over the years, you have made my life better with laughter. Love you!
#8 - Denise Jupp - 05/03/2012 - 08:56
SPQ books have helped me laugh my way through all the bad times. Now everyone may not appreciate the sense of humor the queens have helped support but things really aren't so bad if you can laugh at yourself. The books have also raised my embarassment/shame threshold. I have no problem making a prat of myself in public for a good cause or my own amusement. And it all started with a drive to visit friends I made on the MBOL. I had to stop to get gas on the way and filled the tank while wearing a Marilyn wig, big ass tiara, the sparkiest jewelry I owned, and a hot pank sash that said Queen Maggie.

Thanks, Jill and all the queenly court.

#14 - Jane Schmitt - 05/03/2012 - 09:00
My mom died when I was in my twenties. Jill's books told me it was okay to miss her but I was responsible for myself, I was strong enough. My mom did a good job the rest was up to me.
#15 - Queen Talk Talk - 05/03/2012 - 09:01
Love the books - love you HRHJill. I am a loller in training so this crap would surely help me get through with training and be a professional loller.
#16 - Vee Romero - 05/03/2012 - 09:02
Well, since my company got bought out by Giant Corporation and my job is being cut in a couple weeks.. I will have tons of time for lolling my broke butt and this sure would be a great way to lick my wounds.
#17 - Tricia Reeves - 05/03/2012 - 09:07
My Mother gave me my first copy of the SPQ books, The SPQ Big Ass Cookbook. A few years after she gave it to me, I was having big ass problems with teen aged daughters, MY GUY, and trying my damnedist to get through college classes at age 49. I was working 2 part time jobs on top of all of this and re-discovered my SPQ book. I took it to work with me and laughed away all of my tears. After I finished re reading this book, I was obsessed with having and reading ALL of these delightful books. I could not have gotten through one of the most difficult times of my life without HRH Jill and her wonderful stories. I feel like she and the other Queens she has included in these books, are my true friends. When any of my friends are going through crappy times, I tell them about the SPQ books and how they saved my sanity. Thank you Jill...you ARE a true Queen and my friend!!
#18 - Machelle Harmon - 05/03/2012 - 09:08
All the things that made me cry, made me laugh, inspired me, made me fatter (yum Chocolate Stuff!!). Reminding my daughters to "Be particular" and telling my people that I love them because life is short - all these things should be a part of every woman's life (and every man's). Thank you. Thank you very much!
#19 - beth pettit - 05/03/2012 - 09:12

Thank you SPQs for helping me remember how to play! Coming to Jackson for the parade last year is one of the best things I have done for myself in a long time. I absolutely ADORE all the books! If I won this package, I swear I would wear my tiara and take pictures of myself with my new book and Kindle lolling about in all kinds of interesting places and send them to you! Love y'all!
#21 - Amanda Perry - 05/03/2012 - 09:15

When my husband of 12 years decided he wanted to divorce me and be with one of my good friends, I was devastated. I decided I needed a good laugh, so I re-read The Book of Love. It was just what I needed! I recently recommended it to a friend who is going through a painful divorce. Keep the laughs coming, Jill!
#25 - Beth Grifasi - 05/03/2012 - 09:20

OMG!!! Love me some SPQs!
#32 - Davette - 05/03/2012 - 10:01
SPQ books have kept me going through the births of three children, early menopause, up until now, when I found out that a man who used to live with me (and who raped me) as a child murdered someone, oh yeah and my husband has been cheating on my since '09. I'm still standing and can still laugh.
#33 - Kristen Tschida - 05/03/2012 - 10:02
This would be such a treat! I love, love, love the Sweet Potato Queens! I started reading them in 2009 right after I had a cancerous tumor bigger than a football along with my left kidney and spleen removed. At times it was painful to read because I would just bust out laughing and would forget to have a tummy pillow in place! Three years later and I just had a hernia repair (leftover from my cancer surgery) and a hysterctomy last week and would love to revisit the books on a Kindle Fire! Although I would probably hold off on reading anything written by Jill for a couple of weeks because of the great deal of pain laughter would send me to right now! :)
#34 - Kathy Jo - 05/03/2012 - 10:07
Thanks to HRH Jill Conner Brown, I have met the most wonderful group of women in my sister Berry Queens! Jill's witticisms and unique outlook on life inspired our Head Boss Queen to create a unique fundraiser for Iberia Habitat for Humanity that allows women to celebrate the joys of being women, the bonds is sisterhood necessary to get through the crappy parts of life and give back to our community at the same time. So thanks HRH Jill, for changing my life!
#35 - Cherie "Queen Des Colores" Lord - 05/03/2012 - 10:08

Had a great time at ZDD again this year. Y'all do such a great job and thank you so much for this fun event for us all. Jill, you are such an inspiration to us all. The Village Sweeties have a fund raiser Sat., May 5th for our local camp for children with serious illnesses. We are hoping to raise enough money to send one child to camp for a week this summer. You keep us inspired and working for the children.
#39 - Rhonda VV - 05/03/2012 - 10:31
The SPQ's have taught me that it's ok to laugh when times get tough - even if others question your sanity. That it's ok to be a strong woman and no, I don't need a man; although they are good to have around. Keep up the good work!
#40 - Therese - 05/03/2012 - 11:06
HRH JCB has helped me to remember that the best cure for hard times is laughter and 'being particular'. I can't wait to read the new book!

#45 - Carolyn Carey Rawles - 05/03/2012 - 17:11
I've been a JCB fan the SPQ BoL came out originally. I howl with laughter EVERY time I read the book. I used to read it to my mom when she was in the hospital and then in rehab for physical therapy. She too loved JCB. I've personally paid for at least one plastic surgery, as I give SPQ books for presents very frequently.
#46 - Boss Queen of CRA - 05/03/2012 - 17:39
I have all the audio books and listen to them regularly! A smile some days - down right laughing so hard I pee on others. It gives me something to strive for.

#48 - Cathy Conner Rose - 05/03/2012 - 19:39
When I was down Jill came to town. She reminded me to be the beautiful person that was already me. I learned to laugh and be a better friend, this helped my broken heart to mend. Her advice helped me to allow love to begin, I can't wait for Jill to visit Wichita again!
Okay this is not that great but it makes me smile Love all the SPQ's and their stories.
#49 - Carey Gerdes - 05/03/2012 - 21:12
Jill, your books really have helped our family deal with the crappy parts of life by making us laugh. Thank you so much for that, the sweet stories and your general goofy "insanity." YOU ROCK!!!
#50 - Nancy - 05/03/2012 - 21:14
if it weren't for HRH Jill, i wouldn't have The Numbers. or would i have had the strength to stand up and be my own person. thank you Jill for planting the idea of the new patio, but showing the wisdom of NOT acting on it.
#51 - christel - 05/03/2012 - 22:18
Hrh Jill said to enter, so i am! While knocking on her door and tapping on her window pane.

Love you to pieces and Jill changed me into the Queen of McKinleyville!
#53 - Tamara Clohessy - 05/04/2012 - 08:36
I love all the SPQ books and just finished Fat is the New 30. I lost my Mom and Dad within 8 months of each other, and this book gives an accurate, compassionate view of what its like watching a parent go downhill. I laughed and I cried through the book and I think it helped me remember how glad I was to be able to care for my father during his last 8 months and how I couldn't have done it without the assistance of my daughters Sian and Courtney and my son-in-law Justin. I am blessed to have such compassionate family members.
#54 - Debbie Sanford - 05/04/2012 - 10:45
I love Jill's writing style so much I have reread everything I own multiple times, and created scenes in public, laughing to the point of tears. I have used some of her recipes (though somewhat limited, due to my Kosher kitchen - no bacon :-(
#55 - Debbie Guest - 05/04/2012 - 17:31

I love Free Crap!!!!
#57 - Molly Coleman Wilson - 05/04/2012 - 22:29
The SPQ Big Ass Cookbook gave me recipes for comfort foods that made me feel a little less crappy as my 33 year marriage fell apart.
#58 - tracey byram - 05/05/2012 - 07:27
I can honestly say that the last truly crappy thing that happened to me happened before I found the SPQ books. In February of 2000 my Dad died. I was 18, he was only 48 and it was a sudden heart attack. It was probably 3 or 4 years later that I first picked up the SPQ Book of Love. While I can't say that I had the support of the SPQ books when he died, I can say that since I started reading them I have been reminded to be so thankful everyday for all the blessings I have. I am married now and my husband and I have a 2 1/2 year old, a 15 month old, and I'm pregnant again, due in October. We own our own home, I'm fortunate enough to be able to stay home with our children, and I have an amazing mother and sister. I'm more blessed than I deserve, really, and sometimes I need a reminder to be thankful for that.
#59 - Jennifer J - 05/05/2012 - 12:23
Life's short - laugh!
#60 - YvonneJ - 05/05/2012 - 16:34
While other little girls wanted to be Miss America or Miss USA, I wanted nothing more than to be a SPQ! I long for the day when I can march in your parade donning my inner SPQ beauty! Love ya, girl! You make me laugh 'til I pee and cry 'til I'm outta tears. Love ya!
#61 - Lynn - 05/08/2012 - 07:52
I LOVE reading Jill's stories! I got to meet Jill at a book signing in West Point Ga. and had the best time there. Her books have kept me laughing through divorce, family and friend drama, and I have used her funeral recipes and her laughter to bring a little comfort to the funeral gathering along with sharing her funeralizing insite.
#62 - Kathy - 05/08/2012 - 07:55
The SPQ books made me laugh til I cried even when I was working from 6 am to 9 pm every day with my autistic son helping him to recover from his autism.

Love to play in March!!! Always have a great time.
#64 - Queen Cynthia - 05/08/2012 - 08:03

#65 - Mary - 05/08/2012 - 08:23
Love to play in March!!! Always have a great time.
#66 - Queen Cynthia - 05/08/2012 - 08:31
I may be too young to be a full queen (just don't tell my husband that!), but the very first Sweet Potato Queens book I read (God Save the Sweet Potato Queens) reminded me how much fun it is to be a good Southern girl (no matter what the circumstances) and validated my habit of wearing a tiara (I have over a dozen) for no reason in particular, but especially when having a bad day.
#67 - Amber - 05/08/2012 - 08:44
Your humor has helped me over the years so much. From getting out of a bad relationship, finding true love and fighting ovarian cancer. Now today I find myself worried again after being diagnosed with several new issues. No matter what the situation I always open up one of your books and start reading to get a good laugh to help get me thru. & because of that I am so thankful for you!!
#68 - Hope - 05/08/2012 - 09:19
I want free stuff, because I like free stuff! But I love you. I feel so cheated to have not been born in the south so I can talk just like you...
#69 - Kathleen aka swishy disy - 05/08/2012 - 09:49
I love the way you put life in words. Love the Southerness that comes thru so well. There are so many Northerners in the Greenville area, though they have their cuteness too. But you bring back my Southern roots! Love you Jill!
#70 - Anne McKee Lambert - 05/08/2012 - 12:02
#71 YOUR wonderful book inspired 20 audacious & diverse women to be Queens and a sisterhood has developed. Thank you for enriching MY life!!!!
#71 - Sheri Curb - 05/10/2012 - 17:06
Didn't get to share how SPQ stories have helped with the crappy parts of my life. The story about Funkdog being petted with a stick has rescued me countless times. I'll stop and ask myself, "Am I being petted with a stick?" and if the answer is "yes", I pay attention. Most recently, I got dumped by a man who was not worthy. My response? "Next!"
#72 - Mary Southon - 05/10/2012 - 17:18
Thanks to THE Sweet Potato Queen, I've broken the ice on quite a few new friends by recommending all of the books at one time or another. I have also embarrassed myself on numerous occasions and drawing stairs while reading the book in public and laughing out loud a whole lot!
#73 - Wendy - 05/10/2012 - 17:22
Loving every single minute of the new book! Choose me for the Free Crap!!!
Thank you from me, Molly II and the two Princesses who think of you as family!
Molly
#74 - Molly Coleman Wilson - 05/10/2012 - 17:46
I found your books when I was at a low point and they really helped pull me out of it. I knew I wasn't the only person dealing with crap, but it helped to hear someone else's experiences.
Not long after, when I hit 40, an acquaintance of mine commented that it must be traumatic. I drew upon the wisdom of SPQ, looked at her, smiled and said, "Dear Little Larva Child, this is going to be the best birthday ever." Then I went home to a surprise party and stuffed myself silly on chocolate. It was a truly queenly day.
#75 - Tamara - 05/10/2012 - 17:54
Love the sweet potato queens! I'm going on a Mississippi Literary Tour for one of my graduate classes and will be doing a presentation about you, Jill, next weekend in Jackson! :) YAY!
#76 - Kerry Stringer - 05/10/2012 - 17:57
My son, Jackson, won second place in the state of MS last weekend at Ole Miss in piano performance at the age of 10! Then last night at a dessert auction at church, the pastor asked him to play his piece, which he did, and got a standing "O"! A man won a cake in the auction and gave it to Jackson! So he's starting to make me a profit early in life!!!
#77 - Carrie Creel - 05/10/2012 - 18:07
I am a "Boss Queen" of a chapter here in Germany. We love HRH and the whole Queen concept!
#78 - Elizabth Rowe - 05/10/2012 - 18:18
Reading your books out here in Colorado help me be not so homesick for Mississippi, where people know how to behave (and how not to). Six more years before I can retire and move home!
#79 - Ellen - 05/10/2012 - 18:19
Reading these books has made my time in Pennsylvania a little better. Can't wait to go back home to Louisiana
#80 - Debbie - 05/10/2012 - 18:34
Sometimes, I just felt overwhelmed and couldn't do another day of raising kids alone and working for an evil, horrible man. You reminded me that I could do it and to be thankful for the wacky kids and impossible situations and beautiful girlfriends....then I'd go make some pig candy and/or sweet potato biscuits and/or a chocolate cake and all would be well again. You also reminded me to take a walk so I didn't blow up like a balloon and I didn't. I try and do the same for my girlfriends.
#81 - Heather - 05/10/2012 - 18:38
I used to work at a bookstore, so I was already familiar with how funny the SPQ's are. Found out my mother had read one of the books and LOVED it, so I purchased all of the backlist for her. She passed away in December, so now the books help me smile my way through times I'm missing her most.
#82 - Heather Ellner - 05/10/2012 - 19:04
the book that actually helped me through a difficult time was the double book of the wedding and divorce guides... the funny true/fictional stories made me laugh til my sides hurt bad and then it made me cry buckets of tears of the devastation some of us women let our men put us through... and it gave me ideas of how to enjoy a divorce if that is in the future for me! gives us all hope to smile through the pain, heartache and smiles that make up each day
#83 - rachel m - 05/10/2012 - 19:06
I have three of the SP books and LOVE them. I also met Jill several years ago at the Women's Expo in Dallas. She is so much fun. Unfortunately I did not get to hear her speak because I was a vendor not an attendee and couldn't leave my booth. But it was a great introduction to her books and culture!
#84 - Chris - 05/10/2012 - 19:15
Wearing Revlon's Love that Pink since reading the first book and looking forward to reading the latest
#85 - Amy M - 05/10/2012 - 19:20
I reread your books anytime I need a laugh, which is quite often. I took care of my mom until she passed in October and still take care of my 93 year old dad. The only way to get through life is through laughter. I am believer!
#86 - Queen Tammy Amy - 05/10/2012 - 19:21
I love your books and listening to you read them has almost caused me to drive off the road cuz I was laughing so hard! Would love to win some crap!!!!
#87 - Karen ranzenberger - 05/10/2012 - 19:30
Reading the words penned by HRH Jill can brighten any crappy day. I especially found it helpful to know that there are other women in the world who use "the promise" to get things done.
#88 - Donna - 05/10/2012 - 19:40
Thanks for 11 years of inspiration-parades, fellowship, and introducing us to the lovely city of Jackson, especially the wonderful people of Jackson. We could offset some our parade expenses by winning crap! Puhleez.....

I found the SPQ's while living in Arkansas and discovered my alter ego. I have loved every book that JCB has written and think that she is one of the funniest and most honest woman ever to grace the pages of literature. My life is enriched by being a SPQ's wannabe and I have not stopped laughing since I first read BOL.

You rock! Have read every book. My favorite thing is to read in public so when you provide me with a great, big belly laugh, I can share it with everyone around me! Sharing the SPQ love is what I call it.
#92 - Karyl Bailey - 05/10/2012 - 20:29
I am so lucky to have a wonderful life. I have a great husband, fabulous kids, good health, early retirement, good horses... HRH and SPQs remind me how IMPORTANT it is to spread all that luck around, y'all! So you've made me a better person and by doing so have helped people and animals in my path. Long live the SPQs!!

I love HRH Jill and the Sweet Potato Queens. When my momma had a massive stroke and died a week later, Jill's books on CD were the only thing that got me through the whole horrible 2 week ordeal. Thank you!

I can always go to a SPQ book and get a smile, a laugh and the feeling that I've been hugged by a dear friend - one who understands what it means to be a Southern Lady. Sure do love y'all, Queen Jill and the rest of you queens!

Love your books. Also the recipes are always a bonus. As a SPQ wanna be-I anxiously await the next book.

Thanks for the contest, Jill. I hope I win, but if someone else needs it more -- they will. Life works well that way I think. To all the Queens out there, hello! Keep laughing, loving and most of all -- reading all of Jill's books. She surely does help us forget about the crappy parts of life!

The crappy parts of life help me remember to enjoy the moments of pure bliss that flit through my life like lovely butterflies; to be admired and then allowed to fly away home.

I absolutely LOVE this book and hope to win and give it to a dear friend whose husband has early onset Alzheimers. She needs to do more laughing than anyone I know!! (I can do a pretty fine job on my own with her but she needs this book to help when I'm not there!!!)

Our book club needed a lighter reading, so we read SPQ and each brought a dish made from the recipe choices in the book for our meeting! I chose "OMG" and everyone agreed with the recipe name and loved it!! Thank you so much!!
