HEP THE CHIRREN–SEND BIRTHDAY CARDS!!
Posted June 5th, 2009 by Jill Conner BrowneY’all, I was contacted by Queen Dee whose Aunt Sylvia will be turning 90 next month. Sylvia is a life master bridge player–and not too long ago won the SENIOR SPELLING BEE! She is, by all evidence, a True Queen, who has had the great good fortune to live such a long and FUN-FILLED life–but the greatly sad misfortune of OUTLIVING ALL HER FRIENDS and a whole bunch of her family!
If we can get 90 birthday cards sent to Aunt Sylvia–Dee will write a $500 check to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital. If you address it as shown below–with the “HRH SYLVIA” in the address–then Dee will know they are from Queens and they will count toward the total. I’m hoping to get her to UP the donation, when she gets 10 TIMES THAT MANY CARDS–bwahahaha! This is a fun, no-effort thing we can do to make this great lady’s 90th birthday a great one–and at the same time, MAKE SOME $$ FOR THE CHIRREN!

Hey Jill,
I LOVE the idea. I can make this happen big time for your SPQ’s but I don’t want to spam your blog. I respect your opinion because you’re bigger than me and would kick my tiny butt.
I have a web site where people can go fill out a form and make a fun card to send to Auntie Sylvia. We print out real cards, stuff the envelope, lick the stamp, and mail them.
We give away free cards as a way to introduce people to what we do and I can’t think of a better way to do to it than to flood Auntie Sylvia with cards AND raise money for the Children’s Hospital.
So Jill, if I have your permission I’ll post a link where your fans can send a card for free to Auntie Sylvia. They can even upload photos and make the cards FUN. (I expect nothing less from YOU!)
And 90 cards? Come on that’s too easy! We’re gonna raise some money!

I have a friend whose little girl spent many many many days at BEB for congenital hip dysplasia. She had about 4 surgeries total, but she’s walking upright and fine today. I would be so happy to send cards to Aunt Sylvia and will also get some of the nurses I work with to send in some too. We just love doing fun stuff like this. It takes the edge off of bedpans and needlesticks.

I have hip dysplasia myownself–and I ain’t walking so upright and fine these days! Thanks for rounding up other folks to help with this–we get to make an antique Queen happy and hep the chirren too!

Celebrate Aunt Sylvia’s b’day and help the chirren at the same time? Sounds like a no-brainer to me! I’m passing this one along to my friends!

Well….. mine went into the mail yesterday and I bet MINE WAS FUNNIER than any of yours.
I just sent it early because I would lose it, or forget about it. I love me some Aunt Sylvia and Aunt (What is her name that comes to Jackson every year?? She’s like 96!!)
I just know I am going to rip one of the neice’s t-shirts off their very on body at the brunch in Jackson
next year. I simply want to be adopted by that family– they are so much fun.

The cards have started to arrive! 18 today.
I made the $500 contribution for the chirren today knowing that the SPQs are good for at least 90 cards.
Let’s see how many cards arrive before the big day (June 19). I just might have to make ANOTHER contribution. NOTHIN’ is too good for Sylvia or for the chirren.

We have 89 birthday cards for Sylvia from Sweet Potato Queens. I’m not kiddin’ or makin’ it up. I know more will come on her actual big day. I just thought it was very funny.
